Summer 2019 Newsletter

By Jonathan Goodwin, 17th January 2023

Dear Tenants

We are now at that time of year where the days are at their longest and when many plot holders can spend more time at the allotment. Despite some very unseasonal weather, crops are growing well. Last week all sites were visited by myself and Brenda to judge the plots in pouring rain and I want to thank the site reps who also gave up their time in terrible conditions to meet us to assist in the process.

Congratulations to all those who have maintained their plots to such high standards. The results will be on the website and winners will be notified by the Council to attend a small ceremony to pick up certificates at our Annual Summer Show on July 27th at the Towers School from about 3.30pm.

PLEASE support us. Without entries and interest from a wide number of people it is hard to justify the amount of time required to put on an event like this.

We URGENTLY need offers of support from anyone who can bake a cake for sale as part of our refreshments and lots of raffle prizes. Please let me know if you are willing to help in this way by email/text pennyfox1@googlemail.com / 07964828584

The show schedule will be re-sent out soon so please make a big effort to support our summer show and enter some produce. It is not difficult and a fun way to see how your crops compare to other tenants. There is always help and advice available.

The Trading Store /Summer Show
We are next open on July 6th which is the last time before the Summer Show.
The website will have the show schedule and helpful tips on how to enter the Show and posters should be on all sites to publicise the Show itself and paper copies are available at the trading Store.

We are now not able to sell the blue metaldehyde slug pellets. They should be withdrawn from all shops and online sites as they cannot legally be sold from this week. There are alternatives that we are investigating for purchase at the Trading Store in the future. They can still be used until Spring/Summer next year but after that it will be illegal to use them on all gardens and allotments.

We are still open throughout the year but do check on the published dates.
